Episode 46 - The City of Trading and Academy, Zayhord.

I am a Golem.

The incident at the Royal Castle was a very unpleasant one for me.

In retrospect, I hadn't been able to fulfill my promise to Pinky. Compared to the number of mermaids that were sold off in the mermaid kingdom, it seems that most of the mermaids that were sold off were gathered in the royal castle. It was safe to assume that there were no more left.

In the end, the only mermaids I was able to save were the three I met on the merchant ship. If I had arrived at the royal castle earlier, I wonder if I could have saved more. Well, it's going to be tough. How else would I have gotten all those mermaids to the coast? No, there's no point in thinking about that now. I'm just a golem, after all. I'm not all-powerful, and I don't have the eyes of a god. It's nothing but conceit to think that I can save everything.

I felt like sighing. But I can't.

I'm sorry, Pinky.

 And so, the case of the mermaids that were sold off ended in a very unpleasant way.

{Log: Due to the effects of [Enlightened one], the state of grief has been resolved}

I'm aiming for a certain place based on the information I got in the royal capital. At first, I thought of going to a labyrinth in the continent of Joisa, which is shrouded in a deep fog, but it was a bit far. I heard that there's a trading city called Zayhord in the northwest of the royal capital, near the sea. It's also called the school city of Zayhord. I heard that there is a big school there. At the school, people between the ages of 13 and 18 are enrolled, and they learn various things such as magic and how to fight.

Because it is also a trading city, a good number of people from outside the kingdom also enter the school. Of course, there are non-human species as well. I thought it sounded like fun, so I decided to head to the school. Maybe I'll get to see a school romantic comedy or  there might be some kind of sluggish engagement breakup type of daytime drama that seems to be popular these days, so I headed to the school with excitement and joy.

--6 months later

Phew, I've finally arrived at the Trade city.

It took me six months to get here from the Royal Capital. It's no wonder I've been traveling everywhere. Because I'm hearing voices calling out to me. "Hey, Golem, wouldn't it be more interesting to go over there? The school city is not going to run away, but if you miss this opportunity, you may never see that thing again!" My inner demon whispered to me.

If I have an inner demon, then of course I also have an inner angel. My inner angel said, "That's true. The school city is still in good shape. In fact, it's better to aim for the new semester. It would be more interesting to start with the enrollment ceremony. Why don't you go over there?"

My inner demons and angels were both recommending it. Damn, my steel will is wavering.

The devil and the angel whisper to me.

"Isn't it cooler to regret doing something than to regret not doing it?

They whispered in perfect unison. Damn, you're right! What am I waiting for? You should jump into the interesting things that are happening right in front of you rather than the interesting things that might happen! And if you regret it, so be it! You only live once!

{Log: The effect of the [Enlightened One] has calmed down my excitement}

Hmm, I'm a golem, so I guess that makes me a golem student. Oh, well. I decided to take care of what was in front of me, and as a result, I took a detour for six months. Don't worry, don't worry. It was fun, so who cares?

Thanks to the detour, I got a new title, [Dragon Tomodachi]. I also got a new skill called [Breath]. But I have no mouth, so how the am I supposed to use it? I can't use the [Howl] or the [Breath] at all. What the heck is voices of the world expecting from me?

That's another story.

For now, let's focus on the trade city, or rather, the school city of Zayhord, that is right in front of us!

Since it's a trade city, money and desire will be swirling around it. There are no clean-hearted adults here. Some of the students may be able to see me. But they are over 13 years old. There is no one with such a clean heart. The minds of children in the midst of puberty are probably starting to get dirty from thinking of inappropriate things.

That's right. If you think about it that way, there will be no problem if I use my [Hidden] skill.

Now, let's go, To the School!

--At the School

When I came in front of the school, the gate was closed. There is a piece of paper stuck to the gate.

What? What's going on?

No, no way, is the school closed? Has it gone out of business? Did we just take a detour and it's gone under?

That’s impossible!! The story I heard in the Royal capital was that the school has a history and tradition of about 100 years! How incompetent, the current director! Oh my god, give me a break! Seriously! If this is just a prank, come out quickly with a flip-flop, I promise I won't get mad at you!

{Log: The effects of the [Enlightened One] have calmed my excitement}

Hmm, what a mess. This is where the school chapter ends before it even begins. My exciting and thrilling school life is about to end on the ・・・・・・ . I dropped my shoulders helplessly and continued to stare at the posters on the gate.

Just then, a carriage stopped behind me. One of the servants got out, checked the poster, and returned to the carriage. Then he called into the carriage.

“My Lady, it seems that the old school building has become outdated and a new, larger school building and dormitories have been built outside the city. It seems that classes will be held there from this year. We should go there.”

!? Wahoo! I heard it. I heard it! I guess the school didn't just go broke. Instead, there's a new, bigger school building elsewhere. Looks like my detour was not in vain. I would like to see this new school building. The many events of youth that take place there. That's what I'm looking for.

I climbed on top of their carriage, which began to move quickly, and headed for the new school building.

The school was located a short distance away from the city of Zayhord. So this is the school. It's so huge. No wonder they can't build one in the city. The ground is spacious, and the school building is quite massive. The building in the back is probably the dormitory for the students. What a rich school. I wonder how much they pay for the school. I guess its history and tradition wasn't too shabby.

The Lady's carriage pulls up in front of the inn. Two maids got out of the carriage, one with pointy ears and an elf-like appearance, and the other a normal human maid. The other one was a normal human maid. The two maids looked very well dressed, as if the lady was of high status. They look like actresses. And finally, the lady came down. She's a young lady with a rather pretty face, though she has a bit of a harsh eye. And vertical rolls. Drill hair.

・・・・・・ Oh, she looks like the kid with the vertical roll who was on the merchant ship that was attacked by that pirate ship. I mean, there is a resemblance, but there is no way that kid could have grown that tall. It's a different person. If it was that kid, I would be in trouble. That kid would have been traumatized because he saw me all covered in blood. I'm glad it's not the same person.

I quietly got out of the carriage. As the young lady entered the dormitory, I followed her into it. Even though it's a student dormitory, it's super spacious. What the hell is this? What kind of first-class hotel is this? I don't know how it works, but there's an elevator. Seriously? Another world, indeed. A group of ladies entered the building. I rushed into the elevator before the doors closed. It was a close call. I was about to get caught by them.

Oh, I can feel eyes on me. When I turn around, I see that only the young lady is looking at me with a curious expression. I wonder if she can see me, but no, it can't be. She doesn't say it out loud, nor does she try to touch me. In other words, I guess she can't see me. I suppose she must be suffering from some kind of depression in her heart. I was nodding quietly to myself, thinking that I may be losing out on some phases of my life.

Well, now that we are here. Let's see what kind of room the young lady will be living in. I don't like the idea of sneaking into someone's room without permission, but I think it's okay if I go into her new room with her and have her show the room.

Two of the maids entered the room. The young lady also enters the room. And then I enter the room. Wow, it's so spacious! I've never been in a luxury hotel suite before, perhaps this is what a suite room is supposed to be.

I got excited and looked around the room. Oh, there's even a room for the maids. I'm impressed. The young lady is something else!

I took a quick look around, bowed to the young lady with a thank you, and quietly left the room. While I was looking through rest of the rooms of the suite, I felt as if that lady was looking at me from time to time, but I must have imagined it. Or maybe she was able to see me. There's no way to be sure, though.

“Hey, Erza, Shushua.”

“Yes, what can I do for you, milady?”

“Did you two notice that there was a Silver Golem here earlier?”

“Golem? A Silver Golem?”

“I'm so sorry, but what are you talking about?”

・・・・・・ No, it's fine. Forget it.”

 Episode 60 - "A Part-Time Worker Who Came to Visit"

 As usual, Lynn was busy with paperwork.

(Oh, my God. I can't keep up with all the work.)

 Lynn had a lot of work ahead of him.

 Although Lynn had managed to hire a part-time worker to handle the elevator transportation, he had to handle the rest.

 Moreover, he had to manage it while protecting the trade secrets to prevent others from copying the business model.

 Lynn and Theo skillfully protected the trade secrets by dividing the work of transporting the products in the elevator.

 Here's how they did it.

 Load the cargo on the Renril and let the apprentice mages, who are not yet allowed to enter Alfredo, take care of starting the elevator.

 The work of receiving the goods in Alfredo will be done by non-magical people who have been brought to the city as laborers.

 In addition, those who purchase goods in Renril and those who ship them to the warehouses of the retailers in Alfredo will be assigned to different people.

 The person who buys the goods transports them to the warehouse near the elevator, but does not know that they will be transported by the elevator.

 The person who operates the elevator and transports the goods does not know where the elevator is going.

 The person receiving the goods in Alfredo does not know where the goods are coming from.

 The person shipping the goods from the warehouse in Alfredo has no idea that the goods came via the elevator.

 Thus, Lynn and Theo keep their trade secrets while letting others work for them, but it is all Lynn's role to manage them.

 He has to tell them how much merchandise to buy, when to buy it, how much to transport from Renril to Alfredo, and how much to ship to each store.

 And that's not all. He also has to pay the employees, issue invoices to the stores, process various campaigns and marketing data, report to the Mage Association, and if there is a problem with the elevator, he has to rush to the scene to solve it.

 The reason why they were trying to protect their trade secrets in this way was because Theo was planning to control the distribution and the land that could be the route of the elevator without the other people being aware of it.

 So Theo concentrated on negotiations with the outside world, and thanks to his efforts, the sales channels expanded and sales continued to grow, but this also increased the burden on Lynn due to the increased transportation work and paperwork.

(I can't do this anymore. Seriously, I'm going to die of exhaustion.)

 Lynn laid his face down on the desk and went to sleep.

(It would be nice if I could have a part-time worker to do at least some of the chores and paperwork.)

 But it was hard to find a mage who could read magic and perform elementary level magic to help Lynn and Theo's company.

 Even though the company was posting jobs with much better conditions than others, they couldn't get anyone, whether it was because they were short-staffed or because they were seen as a scam.

(That's right, of course. I have no idea what the company does. I'd probably pass on it too.)

 I think it's okay to disclose the nature of our business, but Theo wants to keep it hidden.

 But if we don't disclose the information, the employees won't come.

 We'll just have to hold out until we buy up enough land to build an elevator or monopolize the sales channel.

 But before that, I'll die of overwork.

 But if we don't disclose the information, the part-timers won't come......

 Recently, Lynn has been going in this roundabout way.

 When Lynn was in a daze, a fairy brought a letter to his desk.

 Lynn looked over the letter in a slouched position with his face lying on the desk.

 The sender says, "Lorea Tax Collection Contractor Office."

(Tax collection contractor office? Who the hell is that? I've already filed a report with the Mage Association and paid my taxes. Do they still want to charge me for something?)

 Lynn read the contents of the letter.

 In the letter, they accused Theo's business, told him how much trouble they were in, and asked him to come to their office.

(Yeah, okay. This kind of people again.)

"Fairy. Incinerate this letter."

 (I'm busy, you know.) The fairy burns the letter when Lynn recites the spell.

(I have no time for these nonsensical complaints.)

 Since Lynn and Theo's business began to turn around, complaints from rival companies like this have been coming in frequently.

 In the beginning, he had paid attention to every complaint, but recently he had stopped paying attention to them.

(It's not about the complaints, it's about the manpower. We really need to do something about that.)

 However, there is a silver lining to this situation. Finally, the first applicant was scheduled to come for an interview today.

(I hope the new part-timer can come soon. I hope they will be good for the job.)

 It was time for the part-time job applicant to arrive for the interview.

 As Lynn straightened his clothes and waited nervously, a knock was heard at the door.

 It seemed that the applicant had arrived.

"Come in."

 Lynn calls out, and a dark-haired woman opens the door and walks in.

"Hello. I'm here because I saw your application for a part-time job. I used to work in an office at a grocery store, so I'm confident in my clerical skills...... Eh? Lynn?"

"Huh? Sheila."

 It was Sheila who came in.

"Do you work here too?"

"No, I'm the co-owner of this company."

"What? You're a co-owner?"

 Sheila rolled her eyes.

"Yes, well. I didn't expect you to be here for the interview, Sheila."

 Lynn smiles shyly.

"I saw the job offer and it pays pretty well per hour. Are you sure? Will you be able to pay?"

 Sheila scanned the interior of the company suspiciously.

"Yes, it's fine."

"No, it's true that I puzzled over the name of the company when I saw it. But it's not that unusual a name. I had no idea it was your company. That means Theo is here too, right? Well, now what should I do?"

 Lynn panicked. If I don't hire more people as soon as possible, I won't be able to sustain myself.

 I'm not sure how long it will take for the next one to show up if we lose her.

"Please, Sheila. Will you work for us? We are in dire need of employees."

 Although Sheila did not shake her head, Lynn continued to plead.

"It would be very reassuring to have someone as reliable as you working with us, Sheila. Please think of it as helping us and lend us a hand. Please do."

 Sheila agreed with a wry smile.

''I don't have a choice. I can't say no if you insist so much. I'll work here for you."

 Theo was reluctant to hire Sheila, but after some persuasion from Lynn, he reluctantly agreed.

 On a sunny afternoon, Lorea's men were standing in front of an office in a corner of Alfredo 28th Street.

 The sign read, "Theo and Lynn's Company.”

 There was no doubt that this was where his business was to be conducted.

 He knocked on the door and raised his voice.

"Theo-dono. Theo-dono. Are you here? I'm the messenger from the Lorea Tax Collection Contracting Office. If you're here, please come out. I have something to tell you. Theo-dono. Theo-dono."

 He kept knocking on the door for a while, but there was no answer. It seemed that nobody was there. He sighed.

(Good grief. No matter how many times I come, he's never home. Is he really busy?)

 He had no choice but to leave the letter with the fairy at the door and leave the place.

 If it were possible, he would have waited until Theo came back, but he had his own business to attend to: Tax collection.

 Recently, there were a lot of companies that were not paying their taxes on time, and he was just getting more and more busy.

(If I could use my magic, I'd be able to do my job more efficiently. ......)

 He was nothing more than a foot soldier, or a slave, brought by a mage to live in Alfredo.

 He had no freedom of movement, not even in an elevator.

 He somehow managed to get around Alfredo by getting rides on the freight elevators that ran on a regular basis.

 If he could hire a mage, he wouldn't have to do this, but there is a shortage of workers who can read magic, and Lorea, who has a complex about her inexperience as a mage, is afraid that a mage more powerful than herself will come to work.

 If only Lorea herself could use magic to do her job, but unfortunately she is lazy and not very good at it.

 That's why people like him, who can't use magic, are given important jobs and are treated like mages.

(Theo, huh. He's still in his teens, isn't he? I can't bear to take the life of a young man with a future. It would be nice if he would agree to a settlement. However, if they can't reach an agreement through talks, I can't let them get away with it. I'll just have to let them think that it was the end of their luck to mess around in Anshe Marcier's turf.)

Episode 45 Regret

The second half of this story may be displeasing for some readers. There are no gross descriptions, but it is a dark story.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I seem to have been attacked mentally by the ruling king Tin. Oh, my God. I've never been attacked mentally before! What's going on? What's going to happen to my mind? What about my soul?

Oh, God, no! Aahhhh! Ugh! Not yet?! Is it still happening!?

{Log: The excitement has subsided due to the effects of the [Enlightened One]}

Umm, Nothing has changed in any way for a while. It was very pathetic that I reacted in my mind like I was under a mental attack.

The Golem has been enslaved by a mysterious man in a black robe who was known to be the Ruler King Tin.

What will happen to the golem?!  Find out tomorrow!

If you've ever seen an anime, you've probably seen a story like this, where a MC is actually enslaved and his friends are desperately trying to break the enslavement. However, there is no need for us to follow such stories. I don't even have any friends to help me.

・・・・・・ No, don't forget. I have a friend who can help me. It's because I have two mabudachi (True Friend)! If I'm really in trouble, I'm sure Hikaru will come to help me. Maybe.

The Voices of the world stated that they tried, but they did not say that they succeeded in enslaving. I quickly calculated that it might be more exciting if they were a little shocked. I'm a golem who can read the situation! Well, let’s try it! ‘Cos why not!

I'd like to execute the "I've been forced into slavery" strategy here.

Fufufu... It's just like being a spy, isn't it?

Now that I have my Line-light, I can even maneuver skilfully like I’m in a gunfight. I've been practicing in my hiding place to prepare for various situations, such as a quick dash to the ground, or spinning around to avoid an opponent's magic, just in case an opportunity arises. Now I'm thinking I can take up the offer for about three brushes.

The black robes must be very confident in their ability. Without questioning my enslavement, he briefly mutters, "Follow me". From the sound of the voice, it sounds like a woman. I nodded my head and followed the black robes. Then, I succeeded in entering the royal castle.

The inside of the royal castle was made to look like a real one. It was gorgeous. If you're going to spend money on a place like this, do something for the children in the slums. They are my few fans, you know.

The black robes went further into the castle. It's a little frustrating that I can't just look around. I want to get a better look. This black robe seems to be quite a high-ranking person. The people I pass on the way bow their heads and give way to us. They don't say a word about me, either.

I came to a tower away from the royal castle. So, this is our destination. I thought we were going up to the top of the tower, but it was the other way around. We were going down to the basement. It was a bit damp. I wondered if the ventilation was adequate. As we descended deeper into the basement, we came to a sturdy-looking door.

The black robes was chanting some kind of spell in front of the door. It sounded like "Open, Goma" to me. I'm very curious if the interpreter is functioning properly. But the interpreter has never been wrong before, and I'm sure she said, "Open, Goma". It's a normal part of fantasy that the most improbable things happen.

One of the black robes walked toward the back of the door. I followed behind and went deeper.

I felt a sense of regret that I shouldn't have gone through with the "I've been forced into slavery" plan.

There were a number of robed people there. And there were a lot of huge cages and huge tanks. The cages and tanks were filled with people who had been modified in various ways. It seemed that most of the people in the tanks were once mermaids.

I can't believe that so many mermaids were gathered here, almost all of the mermaids that were sold off from the land of mermaids must have been gathered here. Those who had been modified didn't seem to have much faith left in them. There's not much light in their eyes, not much will.

There is a slight smell of corpses in the back room. They're using incense to mask the smell, but I can still smell it. I peeked into the room through a crack and saw a lot of corpses. Some of the corpses were mermaids, just bones.

If you combine the modified mermaids in the tank with these corpses, you can assume that almost all of the mermaids that were sold off have been collected here. It seems that it was really a coincidence that our Merchant Ship was able to save those mermaids.

{Log: The effects of the [Enlightened One] have calmed down the state of rage}

What a disgusting place this is. Is this what humans do? Or is this what they do because they are human? I don't know.

Even though it is such a place, the black robes are happily telling the robed people in the room that they have enslaved me. When the robed men heard this, they praised the black robes with admiration. I could hear them saying, " As expected of the ruling king, Tin!"

How can you be so happy in a place like this?

{Log: The effects of the [Enlightened One] have calmed down the state of rage}

I could hear the one in the tank muttering.

“It hurts…. please, just kill me”

I don't know who you are talking to. Nor do I know to whom I am replying.

But I'm the one who heard the voice. Oh, shit, what is happening? What is this feeling?

Thoughts echoed in my head as I turned my attention to the others in the cages and tanks.

!!? God... This. What even is this?

{Log: The effect of the [Enlightened one] has resolved the state of grief and pain}

I have never had such thoughts before. I wonder if they are the feelings and thoughts of those in these cages and tanks.

{Log: Due to the effect of the title [Tomodachi] series, wishes for salvation were collected from the surrounding area}

I didn't know the [Tomodachi] series of titles still had this effect.

I didn't want to know that it had this effect. I hoped I would live without knowing.

{Log: The effects of the [Enlightened One] have calmed down my rage}

Yeah, I get it now. I'll give you what you want.

I'm going to end this in an instant so that you won't have time to feel any pain.

So go ahead and sleep in peace.

I created a huge line-light centered on me. Everything around me was swallowed by the light. Those in the cages and tanks, the black robes, and the robed people around them were all swallowed up in an instant. They would have disappeared without feeling any hurt or fear.

I launched the line light that I had generated straight up into the sky. The tower, which was located away from the royal castle, would disappear completely. If there had been anyone in this tower, they would have disappeared with it. I'm not asking you to forgive me. I'm just sorry.

{Log: Golem has dealt 400 damage to the Black Witch <Dzaeea>}

“Arigato”, “Doesn’t hurt anymore”, "I’m free", "Arigato", "Arigato".

I don't want to be thanked for this.

What are you thanking me for, you stupid bastards?
