Episode 50: Invitation to the Royal Tea Party

“Wooh, it’s cold.”

After parting ways with Atreya, Lynn walked down the path to his room, soaking wet.

(It was nice to see Atreya’s magic. I guess I’m going to catch a cold if I stay like this.)

As Lynn waited shakily in front of the elevator to Alfredo, another elevator arrived and a student got off.

It was a stranger, and Lynn expected him to just walk on by, but to his surprise, he spoke to Lynn.

“Oh? You’re Lynn, aren’t you? You were selected to join Magrillheim in the primary class.”

“What? Yes. That’s right, but. Who are you?”

Lynn looked at the person there for the first time when he called out to him.

He didn’t know him, but he could tell by the height of the person that it was a senior student.

He had an overall air of elegance and spoke in a calm voice.

The clasp is gold, suggesting a commoner class.

“My name is Zayni Citra. I’m Zayni Citra, a third-year middle-class mage. You are soaking wet, by the way.”

Lynn blushed when he pointed it out.

“It suddenly started raining.......

“Wait a minute”

With that, Zayni pointed his wand at me. It was a wand of mass.

While Lynn is wondering, Zayni activates the magic.

“Water droplets on Lynn’s clothing, on the surface of his skin and in his hair. Gather at the tip of my wand.”

As Zayni recited the spell, the droplets of water clinging to Lynn began to creep and move, forming several clumps.

Eventually, when the mass was large enough, it formed a band and gathered at the tip of Zayni’s wand.

Zayni twirled his wand as if he were reeling in a piece of wool. Eventually, the moisture formed a ball of water on the tip of his wand.

Lynn’s body was freed from the soaking cold and engulfed in warmth.

“Bead of water. Go outside the tower.”

Zayni said, and the bead of water flew out of the tower by itself.

(How can you manipulate formless water with a wand of mass? How in the world did he do that…….?)

Normally, things that have no shape or size, such as fire and water, are manipulated with the help of fairies. But there was no sign of fairies in this place. It seems that Zayni is controlling the water with only the power of the wand.

“There’s nothing to be surprised about. It’s a simple mechanism.”

Zayni began to explain to Lynn, who was looking at him in surprise.

“My wand is adjusted so that it can only move small objects. This allows me to absorb only the smallest droplets of water without moving your clothes. In this way, even a wand of mass can manipulate water at will. Water has its own weight, too. I’m good at this kind of minute work.”Smile. There is such a way.”

“Oh, really? I didn’t know there was such a thing.”

Lynn was honestly impressed. If one looked closely, one could see that there was indeed a magic circle engraved on the tip of Zayni’s wand. It seemed to be a magic circle that controlled the power and adjusted the output of the wand.

(If I had known how to do this, my game with Atreya might have been a little better.)

Lynn regretted his lack of study, belatedly.

In the meantime, the elevator to Alfredo arrives.

“Excuse me. Thank you very much. Thanks to you, I don’t think I’ll catch a cold.”

“It’s still too early to be careless. You should go back to your room as soon as possible. The water takes away your body heat. My healing magic has improved your circulation, but it’s only temporary. You’ll have to reheat yourself when you get back to your room.”

“You’ve even cast a healing spell? That’s too much......”

“Don’t worry about it. The elevator’s going to go if you don’t get on it soon.”

“Okay. Thank you very much.”

Lynn thanked him again, got into the elevator and chanted a spell. The elevator started to move with Lynn on board.

“Oh, yes, I forgot to mention .......”

Zayni, who was about to leave with his back to the elevator, turned around as if remembering something.

“I heard you were invited to the royal tea party at Wyngarde. Congratulations.”

“Eh?”

Before Lynn could hear the words of Zayni, the elevator was whisking him away at high speed to the upper floors.

In the elevator, Lynn ruminated on his earlier exchange with Zayni.

It had been brief, but Lynn had a good feeling about Zayni.

(He seemed like a nice guy. He was a little strange, though. A royal tea party? What is that about?)

Every time Lynn met someone on the way to his house, they would ask him about the tea party and he would curiously tilt his head.

Was it true that he had been invited to a royal tea party?

If so, where did the invitation come from?

Which kingdom’s tea party was he invited to?

Lynn had to deny every question that was asked of him.

“How can I be invited to a royal tea party, I’m not even a lowly nobleman. Why would I be invited to a royal tea party?”

By the time Lynn got home, he was completely exhausted from the excessive repetition of denial.

(What the hell is going on? I don’t know who’s spreading these rumors that have no facts.)

When Lynn finally arrived at the dormitory, he was stopped by the matron.

“Mr. Lynn. There’s a letter for you in the mail.”

“Oh, thanks.”

When Lynn received the mail, he went back to his room and opened the package to check the contents.

Inside, he found an oddly expensive letterhead.

It was addressed to Lynn, of course.

The sender said, “Illywia Lim Wyngarde and Wyngarde Royal Tea Party”.

Lynn twisted his head and pondered for a bit, then came up with a possibility.

(Hahaha. It’s Theo’s prank, isn’t it?)

He used to play elaborate pranks like this every now and then.

In the past, Lynn had often fallen for his tricks and been teased by him.

(Come to think of it, did I tell Theo about the time I was paired with Illywia-san in the Demon Beast Forest? How dare he even spread rumors that have no basis in fact. It’s really inappropriate. It hasn’t even been a few days since the news of Elios’s obituary.)

Lynn guessed that he had probably had the news of Elios’ obituary in advance and forgot about it.

(I’m not going to play into your hands. I’ll know it when I see what’s inside.)

In the Demon Beast Forest, Lynn had shown her the signature that would be used for letters and official documents. It was a complicated signature that could only be typed by her guardian spirit, Sylph.

If the letter was really from Illywia, it should have been signed by him.

He cut the seal of the envelope and took out the contents.

Inside, an invitation card and a ticket to the royal tea ceremony were revealed. Both were decorated with the design of the Lily, the national flower of the Kingdom of Wyngarde.

 The invitations read as follows.

“Dear Lynn-dono,

The Royal Family of Wyngarde is pleased to announce that we will be holding our regular monthly tea party in Alfredo.

As you know, the relationship between the Tower of Wyngarde and the Kingdom of Wyngarde is extraordinary, and it is customary for the Royal Family to host a tea party once a month, hosted by the highest-ranking member of the Tower.

This time, it will be hosted by Illywia Lim Wyngarde.

We will be inviting people who are related to the royal family, people who are powerful in the tower, and people who are familiar with the host on a regular basis.

We hope that you will be able to attend this event.......”

The invitation stated the date, time, and place of the tea party, with a reminder to wear formal attire, and at the end was Illywia’s signature in a complicated handwriting that only a Sylph could have written.

(What!?)

Lynn could not believe what he was seeing and decided to read the invitation again from the top.

But no matter how many times he read it, it still said the same thing.

The Royal Tea Ceremony is coming up. Wanting to invite Lynn. The date, time, place, and precautions. And a sign that couldn’t have been typed by anyone else.

(W-What’s going on? Why did Illywia-san invite me to a royal tea party? And why is there a rumor going around before I knew about it?)

Lynn felt a nasty sweat forming on his face. His hands began to shake. Lynn still couldn’t believe what he was seeing. He wondered if his eyes were getting worse, or if he was hallucinating.

 Then Theo came home.

“Hey, Lynn. Every time I meet someone, they ask me if you were invited to the Royal Tea Ceremony. It’s really annoying. When did you become a royal prince or a nobleman?”

Theo looked tired and tried to go to his bed.

“Hey, Theo. This is .......”

“Hmm? What is ......?”

Theo narrowed his eyes and stared at the piece of paper that Lynn was holding in his trembling hands.

“It looks like an invitation to a royal tea party. An authentic one.

The next day, when Lynn went to the school, the rumor had already spread throughout the school.

Everyone was looking at him from a distance.

His face would scrunch up as he walked by, and people would start whispering about him.

Lynn had no way of knowing what they were gossiping about, but he was sure that they were saying things.

Their gazes were no longer those of jealousy or envy, but of something spooky.

Their gazes were speaking for themselves.

What the hell is going on? Who the hell is this guy? Why does this guy get to win the lottery on such a regular basis?

But Lynn has no idea what’s going on with him either.

The person who needed an explanation the most was Lynn himself.

 Lynn was depressed.

What he was most afraid of was Yuwen’s reaction.

It reminds him of the various harassments he was subjected to when he was selected for Magrillheim.

At that time, he was followed around all the time, had his mental strength cut down, and was told all sorts of things.

For him, the invitation to the tea party was probably more serious than the invitation to join the guild.

He was sure that he would be harassed even more harshly than before.

What kind of bad words and unwarranted insinuations will be said about him this time?

Unfortunately, today Lynn was in the same classroom as Yuwen for a class on matter generation.

Lynn entered the classroom in a depressed mood.

 But Yuwen’s reaction was unexpected.

As soon as Lynn entered the classroom, she came flying in with a twinkle in her eye.

“I heard, Lynn. I heard that you were invited to the royal tea party in Wyngarde. You’re amazing. How nice of you to befriend Illywia. I was wrong about you. You’re an ambitious man, aren’t you? It’s nice to be ambitious. I’m impressed.”

And then, without missing a beat, she added the following.

“By the way, have you decided which girl you’re going to take to the tea party yet? I think it would look better if you brought me with you than some of the other girls in the class, don’t you think?”

She was still waiting for Lynn’s response with a glow on her face.

She didn’t even consider that she might be rejected.

  1. Hey if you take over a novel from someone can you at least do some proofreading to make sure the MTLs you use can be read?

  2. I'm sorry, that came off a lot ruder than I meant it. There are a lot of intricacies from other languages to english and unfortunately I dont speak any of them. Google us very wrong a lot of the time like when it mistakes possessive or mixed up I and You for example. These are little things but it really takes away from the experience reading the chapters while also having to perform mental gymnastics with the English language to figure out what the author and/or tl was trying to convey.

    1. I'm definitely trying to get better, English isn't my first language so this is a learning process for me as well. Hopefully it gets better with time. Thanks for the feedback.
