Episode 14: Misdemeanor
It was the first time
in my life that I had ever followed someone around, perhaps I have some
qualities as a detective.
It's already been
twenty minutes since I started following the man in the suit, but he doesn't
seem to notice me at all.
The man walked straight
east along the road in front of my apartment.
On the way, he stopped
at a convenience store to buy some bread and a drink, and headed straight for
the station.
After confirming that
the man had gotten on the train, I got on another compartment of the same
train.
The man was now sitting
in a box seat, looking out at the scenery and chewing on a piece of bread,
probably for breakfast.
So far, there was no
sign of anything unusual.
It is difficult to
judge whether eating in a somewhat crowded train is good manners or not, but
for now, I can't judge him as a bad person.
I decided to continue
my observation for a while longer.
After thirty minutes on
the train, the man got off at a certain station when the number of people was
gradually decreasing.
It was past nine
o'clock in the morning.
If it were a normal
office worker, he would be completely late, but the man was in no hurry and
walked slowly, occasionally looking back.
When I followed his
gaze, I noticed that he seemed to be glancing at the women.
“What are you doing
...?”
I was suspicious and
quietly approached behind the man without him knowing.
Then the man suddenly
started to walk faster.
Did he know I was
following him?
I panicked for a
moment, but apparently not.
A man walks up the
escalator just behind a woman who looks like an office worker.
The man takes his phone
out of his pocket and puts it between the legs of the woman standing in front
of him.
Don't tell me you're
peeping at ......?
In just a little over
ten seconds, the man finished going up the escalator, and without a care in the
world, he took the escalator down and returned to the platform where he had
just been.
What the hell, I
thought what kind of bad guy was this, but he's just a peeping tom.
I complained in my mind
as I looked down at the man.
It's a crime to take a
picture of someone, but I was scared to death that it was going to be some sort
of vicious criminal.
I was even thinking
about what if he was a murderer like me....... This is ridiculous.
It wasn't enough to
have to kill him, and now that I knew the effects of the spell, I decided to go
home.
◇ ◇ ◇
“Yo, Yamato. Are you
feeling better already?”
As soon as I arrived at
the office during my lunch break, my colleague Saeki called out to me.
“Yeah, I stopped by the
hospital. It's just a mild cold.”
It was a complete lie.
“It seems Hosoya-senpai
has a cold too. Unlike you, she's taking the whole day off today.”
“Hmm, I see.”
It's a shame that I
won't be able to see Hosoya-san's beautiful face, but there are days like that.
“Heyyyy, Onizuka Paisen!”
While I was looking at
the desk where Hosoya-san was not present, my junior colleague Okajima came out
of the bathroom.
“Onizuka Paisen, I
thought you were taking a cheat day.”
“I'm not you, I don't
cheat on my work.”
“Heh heh heh, I see.”
I don't know what's so
funny, but Okajima is smiling again today.
You can't lean on me
like that. I'm your senior.
--In the end, I did not
kill anyone that day.
