Episode 64 Market Principles

Lynn was puzzled as he listened to the conversation between Theo and Lorea. They were going on and on about the same thing, but it seemed so easy to solve the problem.

(Why don't you just buy our company from us, Ms. Lorea?)

Lynn and Theo had been planning to monopolize the transportation between Renlyl and Alfredo, but that didn't seem to be possible.

They realized that their elevator capacity would not be able to support the consumption of Alfredo as a whole.

So they were looking for a buyer for this business. They had training as mages, and while there was still room for growth in the business, the limits were becoming apparent.

They decided that it would be better to leave the business to someone who could run it better.

There had already been some discussions. Some of the nobles at the tea party Lynn was attending had expressed an interest in their business. All that was left was to come to an agreement on the price of selling the business.

(For what it's worth, I think it'll be enough if Lorea-san buys it. It would save us the trouble of finding a buyer.)

I had a feeling that would solve everything. But neither of them said anything about it.

(Well, I guess Theo has his own ideas. I'm sure he does.)

Lynn decided to leave it to Theo's judgment as usual.

Theo and Lorea continued to talk in circles for a while, but Theo gradually began to talk less and less.

Theo has had enough of this. But Lorea saw this as a sign that Theo was leaning for compromise.

(The negotiations are about to reach a boiling point, aren't they?)

 Lorea decided.

“I'm sure you've done your best. It's only natural that you should back down. Of course, I'm not saying that for free.”

 Lorea said.

(Finally, we can talk about the specifics.)

 Theo was relieved.

Lorea took out a wad of cash and threw it on the table.

“You'll have a hard time paying for school. Here's a million Legica, and you're off the hook.”

She decides that the negotiations are now over, lights a cigarette and starts puffing on it.

(Hmm?)

Lynn looked at the one million Legica on the desk and twisted his head.

(That's not enough, is it?)

If he could get one million legions as pocket money, he would be crazy happy, but one million legions seemed a little too little to Lynn in return for shutting down the business.

After all, Lynn and Theo could make a profit of at least one million Legica a month. And their earnings are still increasing.

(Have I lost my sense of money?)

Lynn was aware that his sense of money was changing as his standard of living improved.

So this time, too, he thought his sense of money might be a little off.

(I wonder what Theo thinks about that?)

Lynn looked at Theo. He had a cold smile on his face.

(Oh, no.)

A bad feeling rushed through Lynn.

Lynn hurriedly tried to say something, but it was too late. Before he could say anything, Theo started talking like a raging fire.

“Hahahaha. You guys don't know anything about the market, do you? That's why you bureaucrats think like that.”

Lorea and her minions looked at Theo in shock. Only Lynn was restless and fidgety.

I'm not sure what to do.

Theo continued, “Only a million Legica. I guess I've been taken for granted. Power makes people naive, though. This is the ultimate in lordly business. I was wondering what kind of idiot would be doing such a nonsensical tax collection. I didn't realize it was really just an idiot.”

Theo said with a sly smile. He had stopped playing the cat and was no longer trying to hide his condescending attitude.

 Lorea's cheeks twitched.

“What did you say? I didn't quite hear you. What did you just say? Do you ...... know what you're talking about?”

“You don't know what you're talking about.”

 Theo said sharply.

“You didn't lose to me, you lost to the market. You have not been able to keep up with the changes in the market. If you can't keep up with the changes, it's only natural that the market will give up on you. You guys don't know what's going on in the market. I can't talk business with you. There's no way I'm selling our company to you.”

Theo sighed and got up from his seat.

“Well, that was a hell of a waste of time. Let's go, Lynn. We're really wasting our time here.”

Theo quickly walked toward the exit.

Lynn also hurriedly followed behind Theo.

“You know what you're doing, don't you? You're going against me. You'll regret it. It's already too late.”

Lorea's voice came from behind them.

 Theo smirked.

“Ha ha. Try it, old lady.”

After Theo and Lynn left, Lorea kicked a chair as hard as she could in the office.

“What the hell is that little shit?”

Lorea's shoulders were tense and shaking with anger, her breathing was erratic and she was squeezing her shoulder. In addition to this, it is also possible to make use of a variety of other tools to help you get the job done.

“That kid Theo. He made a fool of me. I'll never forget this.”

“I don't think they understand. They don't know what it means to defy us. And they're commoners without the backing of the nobility.”

“They're only in their first year at the Academy.”

“I thought he was just a kid and underestimated him. I thought they were just making a little money, but from the way they reacted, it seems they are making more than I expected. The first year of a school mage, you can't just snicker at a million Legica.......”

“What should we do? What do you want to do? Do you want to use brute force to forcefully destroy their business?”

“It's obvious. Why don't you just go kill both of them?”

Lorea then shouted to her subordinates. She threw desk objects towards her men. The men were a little disgusted by her tantrums, but tried not to show it. She had always been emotionally unstable. She couldn't work here if she was upset about every little thing. She'll have to go to the office next door later and apologize for being so noisy, they thought in unison.

“They are still students at the academy and are protected by the Mage Association. If you want to eliminate them, we will have to do it carefully.”

“What? You can just use Cerberus, a hexenbeast, to burn them to the bone in an instant.”

“Lure them to a deserted place and feed them to Cerberus. If we don't leave any evidence, the academy won't be able to pursue us. If they disappear, no one will think twice about questioning us. They'll think they ran away somewhere in the night, and the investigation will be closed.”

“Hmph. Theo. I'm going make you regret messing with me. After that, Cerberus will eat your corpse.”

Lorea twisted her lips into a suspicious smile.
