Episode 20: Alliance
When I opened the door,
Hosoya-san was standing in front of the entrance with a grim expression on her
face.
“You're late. I thought
you weren't coming.”
It was 8:30 at night.
It was thirty minutes
past the agreed time.
“Honestly, I was really
worried.”
Hosoya-san looked up at
me, as if she suspected it was a trap.
“So what's the story?”
“Well, please come up
for now. Then we can talk.”
When I urged her with
my hand to enter the room, Hosoya-san reluctantly obeyed.
“Just sit back and
relax, I'll make you some tea.”
“I can't relax, there
is no way.”
While mumbling,
Hosoya-san took off her coat and sat down on a cushion.
The jeans that seemed
to emphasize her body line and the tight pink fleece were so different from the
usual Hosoya-san that I almost couldn't take my eyes off her.
I went alone to the
kitchen to boil water and took out an intact tea pack from the back of the
shelf.
Three minutes later--
I put a mug of tea on
the table in the center of the room.
“Here you go.”
Then Hosoya-san pointed
to the tea in front of her and said
“... this isn't
poisonous, is it?”
“There's nothing in
there.”
She was still looking
pretty cautious.
“Take a sip then.”
“No, I'm not much of a
tea drinker.”
“Then why do you have
tea? There must be poison in it.”
“There's nothing in it.
This tea was merely a present I received.”
I thought that women
would prefer black tea over black coffee, and for this reason I chose black
tea, but I didn't expect to be misunderstood so much.
“I'm sorry, but I'll
pass on this. I don't trust you that much, Onizuka-kun.”
“It's fine if that
makes you feel better, Hosoya-san.”
I stared at Hosoya-san
as I said this.
“...... what?”
“No, I was just
thinking that your impression of Hosoya-san has changed a lot since
yesterday.......”
“Onizuka-kun doesn't
need to play the cat anymore, so it's only natural.”
“Huh.......”
Could it be that
everything I had thought of her as a neat and elegant woman was all an act?
“If you want to discuss
something, please do so quickly. I have a date later.”
“Eh, you had a
boyfriend, Hosoya-san?”
I'm sure I'm no longer
in love with her, but for some reason I'm still a little shocked.
“Isn’t it obvious. Such
good woman of this class are never free.”
“good woman...”
You tell yourself that.
Well, it doesn't really
matter now.
Even though I was a
little fed up with my inability to recognize women, I started talking.
“Hosoya-san, you can
use a spell to detect killers, right? When did you learn to use it?”
“A month ago. I remember
when I killed someone for the first time.”
I'm curious to know who
she killed, but I'll ask her about that later.
“How exactly do you
detect them?”
“Whenever there is a
murderer within a few hundred meters, I get chills or a bad feeling.”
Hosoya-san replied,
hugging her body with her arms.
I guess it's similar to
my spell to detect bad people.
“How many killers have
you detected so far?”
“Seven if I don't count
Onizuka-kun.”
“Seven? That many?”
There are seven other
killers in this area besides me and Hosoya-san?
...... this is
unexpected.
I guess I will be
needing this woman.
“Then I'll get onto the
main subject... Hosoya-san, why don't you form an alliance with me?”
