Leveling Murderer - Chapter 24

 Episode 24: Dinner

When I came home to my apartment after work, Misa-chan was standing in front of my room in her school uniform against the door.

“I'm home, Misa-chan. What, what's wrong?”

“Onizuka-san ...... Ah, um, I'm sorry about this morning.”

Misa-chan lowered her head.

“This morning?”

“Yes, I acted like I left the pot and ran away. ...... Also, it seems I was rude to Onizuka-san's girlfriend.......”

Oh, I remember something like that happened this morning.

“I don't mind that at all, were waiting here just to say that?”

“Ah, yes. I'm sorry.”

I wondered about the fact that she hadn't changed out of her uniform meant that she had been waiting for me since she came home from school.

“I'm sorry about that. The woman I was with is not my girlfriend or anything, she's just a senior at work. She got drunk in my room and didn't wake up, so I just stayed with her until morning.”

I'll also clear up any misunderstandings.

“Oh, she’s not your...... girlfriend?”

“That's right. There's no way a beautiful woman like that would be my girlfriend.”

If you look at her looks alone, aside from her personality, Hosoya-san is at the top of the list and I'm in the middle of the list at best. It's hard to keep a balance.

“It's not like that. Onizuka-san is very nice and cool.”

Misa blushed, but looked up at me and desperately pleaded.

“A-Ah, thank you.”

Misa-chan is really a sweet girl to put up with my embarrassing behavior and still keep up with me.

I'm flattered, though.

“Is Shimizu-san...... your mother not back yet?”

“Yes, she is still working. But I'm sure she'll be home soon.”

Misa opened her bag and reached inside to get the key to the front door.

“I see. Well, don't catch a cold, okay?”

“Okay. Thank you very much.”

“Thanks for the oden. See you later.”

“Okay.”

I waved lightly at Misa and opened the door before she could unlock it and went inside--

“What? Hmm...”

--I was about to go in, but Misa's confused voice made me stop.

I held the door open.

“Misa-chan, what's wrong?”

I called out to her.

“Oh, no, I can't find my keys.......”

“Did you accidentally drop it?”"

“I don't know. I think I might have. ...... What should I do?”

Misa looked troubled.

But there's nothing I can do about it.

It was already dark, and if she had dropped the key, it would be difficult to find it.

The only thing I can do is to ask .......

“Do you want to wait at my place until Shimizu-san comes back?”

That's all I can do.

“Eh ... is that okay?  I don't want to bother you....?”

“Not at all”

As long as Misa-chan and Shimizu-san share my secret, they are already like my family.

“Come on”

I decided to let Misa stay in my house for a while.

“I know you haven't had dinner yet. Do you want to eat something?”

But all I have is the oden I got this morning and the rice balls I just bought on my way home from work.

“Ah, it's okay. I'll eat with my mother when she comes home. Onizuka-san, please don't hesitate to eat without me.”

“All right, excuse me.”

I took out four rice balls from the plastic bag in front of her, and put them on the table.

I also put the oden that Misa-chan gave me this morning on the table.

I quickly munched on a rice ball with tuna mayo.

“Want to watch some TV?”

I manipulated the remote control and started zapping.

But I couldn't find any interesting programs, so I stopped at a news program.

“How are things going with your exams? Are you doing well?”

“Yes. I got an A on the national mock exam the other day.”

“Wow, that's great.”

“Thank you very much. And you know......”

I spent a relaxing dinner time with Misa, who was happy to share with me how her grades had improved.
