Leveling Murderer - Chapter 29

 Episode 29: Saeki's Confession

[fat man clerk at bookstore in front of station]

[two couples in room 332 at Saison Mercades]

[the thickly-dressed employee with glasses at the cell phone store next to my office]

[the lady who walks in front of my apartment every morning at five o'clock with her big dog].

......etc.

I kept sending the information about the bad guys I detected to Hosoya-san on line.

It seems that Hosoya-san is using the weekends and holidays to kill people, and the bad guys I've told her about have all disappeared by the end of the week.

I don't know how she does it, but she's still working at the desk facing me, so I guess there's no problem.

Of course, I didn't just give out information.

I was given information about killers by Hosoya-san and tried to stay away from the areas where killers appeared as much as possible, and like Hosoya-san, I decided to set my days off as bad guy hunting days and dared to go out and kill those bad guys I detected there.

One month after forming an alliance with Hosoya-san, my level had reached 10.

One day, during lunchtime, Saeki called me to the roof.

When I arrived at the rooftop, Saeki was already there, standing with his back to me.

“What's wrong? Calling me out to a place like this?”

When I called out to him, Saeki turned around with an unusually serious look on his face.

“No...... I have something important to tell you.”

“What's that? That sounds scary.”

I was wondering if he was going to ask me for money.

“I've been thinking that I should tell you for a long time, but when I try to, I can't.......”

Saeki began to talk to himself.

“Yamato...... I knew about Yamato’s feelings, yet I ......”

So just what are you trying to say? I tried to smile and ask him back, but he didn't seem to be in a mood for teasing.

I read the atmosphere and decided to listen in silence.

Saeki glanced at me as if he was looking at my face.

“I'm actually hiding something from you.......”

He moved his mouth in a way that made it difficult to say.

And then, as if he had made up his mind, he stared into my eyes.

“I'm actually dating ...... Hosoya-senpai!”

He shouted.

Eh?

“Yamato, I'm sorry I betrayed you!”

“...... Yeah, no, it's okay.”

“Eh...... that’s okay......? Aren't you gonna be mad?”

“Angry? Me? Not at all.”

If I'm Hosoya's father, then I'm not in a position to interfere with her social life.

“But you told me you liked Hosoya-senpai before, didn't you?”

“Ah~ ......is that it? I don't even like Hosoya-san anymore.”

I used to be interested in her, but now that she's almost killed me, I've lost all interest in her.

“What's happening...... I was ready to get punched.”

Saeki slumped to the concrete ground as if he had fainted.

“Sorry. I thought I told you.”

“You didn’t...... hah, I was scared out of my wits!”

Saeki now lies on his back.

Looking down at Saeki, I thought that I had done something wrong, but at the same time, I was somewhat convinced that what I was doing was somehow equivalent.

Hmmm, I had no idea that Hosoya-san's boyfriend was Saeki, by the way.

I guess I have bad intuition too.
