Episode 50 - A Long Conversation with the Young Lady
I am a golem.
I found a spot in the
forest where the light shone through the trees and sat down gently. Don't tell
anyone that I used a little line light to kick up the branches of the trees so that
I could get a good amount of natural light.
The lady and her maids
woke up. Then they looked at me. I guess the morning sun was just reflecting
off of my face, so they turned away. Oh my god, they were supposed to look at
my sparkling metal body and say, “Wow, you look great.”
Things never go as
planned. It is precisely because we are unstoppable that we can say we are
alive.
When I was wondering
what they were going to do for breakfast, the maids took out emergency food
like a pack of calorie mates. I wondered where they got it from, but it seemed
that the aprons of the maids were magical aprons. They took out a kettle from
the pocket of the apron, filled it with water using water magic, and started to
boil water by lighting the branches of the trees they had collected with fire
magic.
What a surprise! I
thought they were just dumb maids, but they seem to be the maids who can do their
job. One of the maids asked me if I wanted some, but I couldn't eat it, so I
declined.
I was wondering what we
were going to do with our current situation, and then the lady started to
explain to us.
As the prince had said,
this is the continent known as the end of the world. It seems that the forests
around here are still shallow, and the creatures that live here can be dealt
with by the young lady if they are alone, but if they come together like the
monkeys did yesterday, it's impossible. If We managed to find the river and
headed for the coast. And by following the coast, we hoped to reach the port town.
I was wondering if
there was a port town even though it was called the end of the world, and the
lady guessed that there was. Apparently, adventurers often come here because
some of the demon materials and ores that can be extracted from this continent
are very valuable. I see. It's like a town that you can come to after the last
dungeon. After all, it seems that this young lady was quite a talented girl.
So, here I am, walking
in the forest, looking for the river. But it's not easy to find one. The
monkeys and snakes that occasionally pounce on us, I just slap them away. I
don't know what to do.
It's just a walk in the
woods, but the lady and her maids are getting pretty tired. It can't be helped,
they are humans. The lady is encouraging the maids as they go along. The maids
are doing their best, but it seems to be hard. I think we should take a rest
before the sun goes down.
I suggested to the lady
and the maids that it was time for us to get some rest, and we decided to call
it a day. It was now night. The maids must be very tired. They were sleeping
peacefully.
The young lady spoke to
me as we sat around the bonfire.
“Silver Golem, the day
I entered the school dormitory, I saw you for the first time. I was surprised
that you got into the elevator without permission and then even entered my room
without permission. I remember that you took a look around the room, bowed, and
left. After you left, I asked Erza and Shushua, those two maids, if they could
see you, but they could not. At first I thought it was a phantom that only I
could see.”
Uh, Oh. After all, the
young lady could see me from the beginning. It's really uncomfortable, like I'm
being exposed for the bad things I've done in the past.
“But when I saw you
coming in at the end of the row on the day of the entrance ceremony, I came to
believe that you were not an illusion. I had no idea what this golem was trying
to do.”
Well, if you could see
me so well, you should have called out to me. What is this? I'm super
embarrassed.
“You were also
following us to the demon hunting exercise camp. At night, I saw you unnoticed
driving away a King Black Tiger that would have caused a lot of damage if we
had to deal with it alone.”
What, Really?! Did the
lady notice the black tiger too? I was completely unaware of it. I'm in total
shock, young lady! You're no ordinary young lady!
{Log: The effect of the
[Enlightened One] has resolved the state of agitation}
“And I remembered the
story I heard from my mother and sister before.”
Mother and sister? I
don't know many people in this world. Who are they?
“I was told that when
my mother and sister's cruise ship was attacked by pirates and they thought
they were doomed, a silver doll attacked the pirates, killing many of them and
sinking the ship easily. I was told that the doll was so satisfied with killing
the pirates that it was not interested in my mother and left, so they were
saved.”
Oh my, I had guessed
that the girl with the vertical rolls at that time was the young lady's sister.
I guess vertical rolls are a sign of nobility. I'm sure that as a noble,
vertical rolls are a hairstyle that cannot be overlooked.
“My sister was
terrified and so was my mother, but when I heard the story, I thought that the
doll had appeared to save the cruise ship from the pirates. But I also remember
wondering if such a doll really existed. When I saw you getting rid of King
Black Panther, I was able to convince myself that you really were real.”
I knew I had
traumatized the vertical roll girl, I'm sorry. But I don't have any regrets
about killing the pirates because they were going to attack someone else if I
let them live.
“On behalf of my mother
and sister, I want to say thank you. Thank you so much. Thanks to you, I can
still see my mother and sister.”
I nodded my head
respectfully. I feel shy when I am being thanked again.
“After that, I began to
follow you around, wondering what you were doing at the school. I also watched
your behavior from time to time when Mesrard made a mess on her desk and in her
shoe box and you would clean it up. I had no idea what you were doing it for.”
Well, you wouldn't
think it was just a hobby of mine, would you? As for Icchako, it's completely
because of my competitive spirit. You can't possibly understand that. At first,
it was out of my kindness that I wanted to make it less unpleasant for the children
who were being bullied, but I changed my policy when I found out that she was
framing someone else.
“And thank you so much
for chasing after us and coming to our aid after the prince transported us away
this time.”
The young lady
straightened up and bowed deeply. I watched the situation carefully.
“We would have been
killed by those monkeys if we were alone. I still have things to do, so I can't
die yet. I'm sorry for my unreasonable request, but could you please help us by
staying with us a little longer?”
The young lady looks me
in the eye. I nodded slowly to show my approval. The lady looked at me and
said, “Thank you,” and went to sleep.
I look at this young
lady and think. This young lady has really high qualifications. Seriously, when
I was a human, would I have been so strong at her age? I wonder if it was her
position that made her this strong, or if it was because of being a young lady
that made her this strong, or both.
I thought quietly as I
gazed into the flames of the bonfire, that I would watch how the young lady
would go about her business for a little while.
--Two days later.
We walked through the
forest, but didn't come across a river. I wondered if there was a river. I
start to worry. The maids and even the young lady can't hide their stress.
Huh!? Shouldn’t I just
ask the spirits!?
I've been so careless.
Don't worry, don't worry. Occasionally, the spirits would come up to me and say
hello.
So I asked the spirits.
Suddenly, I started to gesture to the spirit, and the lady and the maids looked
at me like, eh, what? Maybe they are tired, they do not have that big of a
reaction.
Where is the river? I
asked with a gesture. It was hard to get the message across. I continued to ask
desperately. The troubled spirit asked for help from the spirits around him. Do
you know what a river is? It's a place where water flows. I gestured, but it
was difficult to get the message across. It's difficult.
After about 20 minutes
of communicating with the spirits, I was surprised to find that an enormous
amount of spirits had somehow gathered around me. I was astonished.
The young lady and
maids are resting in the shade of a nearby tree, but they are surprised to see
me surrounded by spirits. They must be able to see the spirits because the spirits
are also struggling to decipher my gestures, having somehow broken free from
their invisibility skill.
In the midst of all
this, one of the spirits appeals to me as if to say, “I understand, follow me.”
I nodded my head and gestured for the lady and the maids to follow me.
The place we were led
to was not a river. I wondered what this meant. It was a big tree. The trunk
was huge and sturdy. It had no fruit, but there were beautiful flowers blooming
everywhere. The spirits that had been leading me were all heading towards the
big tree at once.
What? Wait a minute!
The river. I want to go to the river!
What the hell? I've
been fooled! My feelings were not conveyed to the spirits at all. I was in a
gloomy mood. But the lady and the maids seem to appreciate it.
“What a magnificent
tree! I've never seen a tree like it.”
“Yes, I can feel a very
warm power coming from this tree.”
“It also makes me feel
a little less tired.”
What do you mean? Is it
really true? From the looks of their expressions, they are not lying, nor do
they seem to be concerned about me. I don't understand, but they seem to really
feel that way.
When I heard Erza, the
elf-like maid, say, “Maybe this is where the spirits live.” I remembered my
mabudachi.
That's right, when in
doubt, talk to your mabudachi!
