Episode 10: Welcome Back
“Here we are.”
“Yes. Thank you for
walking me home.”
Misa-chan bowed
politely to me, even though we only came home together because our apartments
were next door to each other and I had no intention of dropping her off.
I was about to part
ways with her at the door.
“Oh, excuse me, just
wait a minute ......”
I stopped Misa-chan and
grabbed the Tupperware from my room.
“Please give this back
to your mother, Shimizu-san. Tell her the curry was delicious.”
“Ah, yes. I understand.”
“Sorry and thank you”
“No worries, then
excuse me.”
She bowed again, and
Misa took the Tupperware and said, "I'm home!" and went into the next
room, 202.
I also went into my
room.
Then, the cheerful
voice of Shimizu-san welcoming Misa-chan, "Welcome back", reached me
in my room.
I was fed up with the
thinness of the wall, but I also felt a bit relieved because it seemed like she
was saying "welcome home" to me too.
While my lunch from the
convenience store was getting heated up, my bathtub was getting filled with hot
water and I was changing into my indoor clothes.
Ding!
The microwave oven
beeped.
I take a hot lunch out
of the microwave and place it on the table in the middle of the room.
I turned on the TV and
zapped through the programs, taking a bite out of my lunch.
There was nothing
interesting on, so I switched the channel to a news program and let go of the
remote.
“...... has been
arrested on suspicion of breaking into an unknown woman's room and assaulting
her. The suspect admitted to the charges during interrogation. He has also been
charged with assaulting a young woman in the past.......”
On the TV, the
suspect's mug shot is shown along with the voice of a male announcer.
“He's violent with
women....... A guy like that would make a great target.”
I said and ate my
lunch.
Maybe it's because I
saw that disgusting news, but I feel like my lunch tastes bad.
I finished my dinner
early, took a bath and laid down on my bed.
“... 6 days left?”
I muttered to myself as
I stared at the ceiling in the dimly lit room.
◇ ◇ ◇
I knew it, but there
are not many evil people who deserve to die.
It is even more
difficult to find them around us.
And then...
Time passed with me not
killing anyone, and before I knew it, a week had already passed since the day I
killed the second person.
If I don't kill someone
by 10:30 a.m. tomorrow, I'm going to die.
“......this is bad.”
“Hmm? Did you say something, Onizuka Paisen?”
Okajima, sitting in the
passenger seat, opens his eyes.
I thought he was
asleep.
“No, I didn't say
anything.”
“I see.”
Okajima closed his eyes
again and went into a sleeping position.
Although he is a
junior, he makes his seniors drive and he sleeps beside them, but if he were
awake, he would just be chattering away in some incomprehensible youth
language, so I'll leave it at that.
After finishing his
sales work, Okajima returned to the office and took the initiative to report
the results of his work to the managing director.
The managing director
happily grasps Okajima's hand and says, “Welcome back, Okajima-kun.” Okajima
happily replies, “Yes~”
While that was going
on...
“Pardon me, I have to
go now”
I greeted them without
disturbing their conversation and headed home.
