Episode 53 - The Story of an Adventurer in a Labyrinth City
My name is Gazari.
I'm a two-star
adventurer.
This is Quardros, one
of the labyrinth cities in the deep misty continent of Joeisa. Daredevils
gather here and scatter their lives in the labyrinth.
Recently, a newcomer
has appeared in town on a whim. And he quickly rose to prominence in this town.
And he did it all by himself.
We adventurers who
don't belong to one of the major clans call him “Golem-san” with respect,
dignity, and fondness. Golem-san, as the name implies, is a silvery metal golem
of about one meter in height. There were some idiots who got involved with
Golem-san at first, but they were easily defeated by Golem-san.
Such a golem even has a
second name that can only be given to a powerful one. Using light magic, the
Golem fights while sparkling and drawing trails of light. Someone who saw it
gave it the cool nickname "The Sparkling Golem".
While I was talking
about the golem, the Golem came in through the entrance of the bar. The people
around me are a getting a little nervous.
“It's Golem-san.”
“You're looking shiny
today.”
“That's Golem-san. His
walk is flawless.”
“I wonder if we can get
him to join our party somehow.”
“No way. We'll only
slow Golem-san down.”
For those who are not
in the clan, Golem-san is a hero. You probably don't know this, but there's
even a “Golem's Admirers Association”. You can see how influential Golem-san
is.
Golem-san sat down at
his usual spot at the counter without reacting to the voices around him. That
seat is already reserved for Golem-san. If someone who doesn't know that tries
to sit there, the people around him will try to stop him.
Golem-san looks at the Master
and places an order with the index and middle fingers of his left hand. That's
his way of telling the Master how much alcohol to order for him. It's pretty
cool, isn't it?
The master is also used
to it.
Putting the alcohol in
the usual container, he quickly slides it across the counter toward Golem-san.
He takes the container and, as usual, pulls out a magic polishing cloth from
his diagonal pouch and quickly dabs the alcohol onto the cloth. He then
carefully polishes each of the store's glassware, one by one. The flowing
sequence of his actions caught the attention of the people around him. The best
proof of this is the squeaky sound of Golem-san polishing the glasses in the
store, which used to be so noisy.
Golem-san polishes the
glasses for all of us. That's why the glasses in this store are always shining.
That's why we can drink in good spirits every day.
Such a golem has not
registered as an adventurer. No, he can't. It's because of the guild's rules.
Apparently, demons can only be registered with the guild if they are controlled
by a demon master. What's with the by-the-book approach?
Golem-san is Golem-san. It doesn't matter if he's a demon or not.
But between us, we're
negotiating that soon the guild will have to acknowledge Golem-san.
Because if you don't
register as an adventurer and have a dungeon card, you won't know how many
levels you've been through. Golem-san goes on and on, solo. And yet, if any
adventurer is in trouble, he will help them out and take them to the surface
without saying a word. Overwhelming is the word I would use to describe Golem-san.
I became a two-star
adventurer, and I almost thought I was strong, but I was taught that there is a
higher power. If it weren't for Golem-san, I'd probably be dead in the
labyrinth. I really can't thank Golem-san enough.
Oops, I got off track.
In other words, we, the
“Golem-san's Admirers Group”, think that he may have reached a level that no
one has ever reached before. There are a lot of demon materials and magic
stones that Golem-san sometimes brings back that even the major clans have
never gotten before.
I'm sure the guild is
dying for information from Golem-san. But since they haven't registered him as
an adventurer, they can't ask him for information. Our guess is that the guild
will go to Golem-san first and ask him for information.
Oh, it looks like
Golem-san has finished polishing the glasses. He raised his hand to the master
and walked into the back of the store. Golem-san uses this place as his base.
That's why the people who adore him naturally come to this place.
It was time for us to
wrap up for tomorrow.
Putting the money on
the table, we left the store and headed back to the inn.
